Interview with Eiber Resident, Carrie S.

November 9, 2014

How did you first hear about the Sustainable Neighborhood program?

At an Eiber Neighborhood Association meeting

What appealed to you about it?

Bringing together community building and sustainability aspects in one program - and the fact that it was under the auspices of the City of Lakewood as some resources and assistance would be available.

Why is certification important? As opposed to just participating in sustainable activities?

It provides goals and an ongoing way of monitoring progress. It provides a way to recognize achievement and reward participants.

How do you envision Eiber’s participation in the program looking in 5 years?

In five years I hope Eiber is widely recognized as a desirable place to live as a result of its sustainability ethos.

How do you envision Eiber’s participation in the program looking in 50 years?

In 50 years, I hope Eiber is recognized as the first sustainable neighborhood in this program (which is now going national and maybe even global!)

What is your favorite part/aspect of the program? Do you have an example/story about a benefit/positive that has come out of the program yet?

My favorite part is that I now know some of my nearby neighbors who are interested in the same things that I am. And that is after living in Eiber for 10 years!!

At the last resilience circle a rooster was re-homed, some excess Jerusalem artichokes found a taker, recipes were swapped and it was decided to form a delegation to City Council to present our concern about the lack of yard waste recycling facilities for residents.
